About
From March 11 to March 18, 2018, Chi Alpha Vermont took a team of students to Puerto Rico to spend a week doing Hurricane relief work. We chose Puerto Rico because there are still so many people in need after the damage caused by Hurricane Maria. Hurricane Maria was a category 5 hurricane that decimated Puerto Rico on September 20, 2017 and caused an estimated $94 billon in damages. Much of the island was left without power for weeks, and although 66% of power has been restored as of December, 2017, most places we visited still did not have power. Some families are even waiting until September, 2018 for power to be restored.
